RE: Onan 6.5 Generator problems

Just a stupid ??
Did you replace the SPARK ARRESTER or just put a std. muffler back on it.?
I replaced it with an Onan muffler, part# I got out of my parts manual.
Thanks

RE: Onan 6.5 Generator problems

if you take the muffler off will it run correctly????
Hello
Yes, It starts alot easier and runs about the same. I really think maybe my carb is out of adjustment a little. With the muffler on I am getting about 130V w/air on but when I shut it down it jumps to 150V for a couple of seconds. I have a suggestion from Generator Jim on how to fix the over voltage but I want to make sure the carb. is ok before I correct that.
Thanks again

RE: Onan 6.5 Generator problems

Main jet/altitude adjuster 1 1/2 turns open from GENTLY closed
Idle jet 1 1/2 turns open or blocked on later models
Idle speed adjusting screw/bolt Set at 55 Hz or 100 volts.
JimL
Hello
Am I correct in thinking that the main jet screwed all the way in or until the spring is compressed would be closed?
Where is the Idle Jet?
Should the screw that is above the governor linkage be touching the linkage? (It is not)
When the unit is running the linkage in slightly moving back and forth as the unit has a very slight fluctuation in RPM?
Thanks again for your time.

RE: Onan 6.5 Generator problems

Did not put on backwards did you
Went on just as it came off. I think this style would be impossible to go on backwards.
Thanks

RE: Onan 6.5 Generator problems

Hello
I am trying to get my generator ready for use on my recently purchased used RV. It seems to run decent except the muffler end has rotted away. Today I put a new muffler on it and with the new muffler the unit doen not want to start unless I flip the choke. (I believe it would be in the open position.)Then it eventually will start , It seems to be flooding??Maybe?? I just dont understand why the muffler would cause carb problems???
Thanks to anyone who can help me out..

Hello
Does anyone know where I could download or buy a service manual for this generator? I Have an installation manual, an operators manual, and a parts manual but nothing on servicing the motor.I am tring to find info on the factory settings on the carb. Mainly the altitude adjustment screw, I think it maybe way out of adjustment.
Thanks again

SHURflo model no. 2088-403-444

Hello
On my recently purchased used RV I found that when my pump kicks on it leaks water where the metal housing mounts to the plastic housing.
From the rust I would say it has been leaking for some time.The pump seems to work just fine other than the leak,I guess my question is with a pump with a date of 4/89 should I try to rebuild or just purchase a new pump, and if so does anyone know what model no. replaced this one ?
Thanks for any help.

RE: Dometic Refridgerator only runs on A/C

Hello
After reseating all connections the ignitor started snapping.
I then tapped a few times on the valve with the butt of a screwdriver
and to my suprise I got a blue flame that would burn for only a few seconds the go out,the ignitor would relight then out again.
I took all burner componants out cleaned (loads of rust and soot in gas tube) and reassembled as you guys suggested and sure enough it seems to work as expected. Thanks to all who helped, you guys are great!!

Dometic Refridgerator only runs on A/C

Hello
I Recently purchased a used RV with a Dometic Royale RM3801
(Automatic energy selector)Refridgerator in it. When I bought it at the end of Feb. I tried to run the unit on L/P after a few tries it would light but not stay lit. I now am tring to get it ready for the summer and I cannot get any snap from igniter (Checked fuse it is OK) and I dont think I'm getting any L/P to the unit. Valve is open and my water heater is running fine on gas so L/P fuel is not an issue. Cannot get unit to run on 12V either.
Thanks in advace for any help.

RE: Onan 6.5 NHE

Not sure exactly what you need so here goes.
6.5 NHE-1R/26100C
S/N 1870934895
V=120
PF=1.
AMPS=54.2
HZ=60
RPM=1800
BAT 12
If this is not complete let me know and I will look some more.
I maybe should also clearify the 150v spike only lasts for 2-3 seconds
then its back to 130-135v.
Thanks again

Onan 6.5 NHE

Hello all
I took a voltage check on outlets in my Rv and here is what I got.
130-135 No Load.
125-130 With one air on.
150 When I kick the air off.
Is this normal and /or acceptable ?
Should I be concerned? If so what should I do ?
Also how can I check to see if my generator is idleing too high?
Thanks again

RE: 1986 Ford 460 Water pump

Hi,
Just for an update, the metal tube has a self sealing fitting. I believe it contains an o-ring or two between the tube and inside of the fitting which cannot be seen unless destroying the tube.The water pump is on and has not leaked as of yet.:B
thanks again

RE: 1986 Ford 460 Water pump

Hi,
I don't remember the tube wiggling at all. Perhaps that part is broken.
Is that the part that goes to the head with a 3" long heater hose? Perhaps it broke when removing it. When you put it back on, I suggest using 4 hose clamps, so that the hose will not expand and contract when the engine heats up, and the hose will last many years.
Fred.
The hose that is in question is the metal hard line with a male fitting on it that mounts down and to the left of the 3" hose, if you are facing the pump.
Thanks again

1986 Ford 460 Water pump

I am in the process of replacing my water pump. I hooked up the steel tube and noticed after it was tightned that the tube would still wiggle from side to side. I unscrewed the fitting and looked at the end of the tube there is no flare and it does not have a flat in the pump for the male fitting to tighten against. Does anyone know if this is a self sealing fitting or what might be going on? The replacement pump is exactly like the one I took off. Thanks for your help.
